Motorcycle green laning maps

Most users tend to opt for a 1:20map which can show the area in much more detail (many of these lanes are small and can be easy to miss on a larger one). On an Ordnance Survey map key, BOATS are shown as a series of green pluses.


Other maps may use a different symbol.

All the lanes that I know are legally drivable in my area are liste but its probably worth having a good look in your area to check the accuracy of the map. Green - Laning and the Law. The term green lane doesn’t have any lawful meaning and instead is a term which covers the different Public Rights of Way.


These include footpaths, bridleways, byways and restricted byways. It is desperately important to stick to the law when trail.


This is designed and ridden by Motorcyclists but can be used by 4xvehicles. This one is quite a ‘no brainer’ (no pun intended).

After the helmet, boots are probably the most essential piece of kit you’ll need. There are a couple of options for you here. Riding green lanes and byways is NOT riding off-road.


The law on green lanes is simple but messy. If you cannot read an Ordnance Survey map maybe green laning or adventure biking should not be your thing, but if you can read a map, the fact that that the OS shows a byway is half the battle. What makes it special Peddars Way is the perfect way to get into green - laning. The 50-mile route is a smooth cocktail of beautiful country roads and easy-going trails.

They could be a flat farmland or a steep technical rocky climb. We strongly suggest that riding is done with a local TRF group run leader who will have knowledge of the local area, and the effect of weather on the lane.
